The Virginia Fall Race day is rich in the tradition of the understated elegance and sportsmanship of steeplechasing. It provides one of the Middleburg area's premier sporting and social events on the fall calendar. Drawing crowds in excess of 10,000, this outstanding equestrian event combines the thrills of steeplechase with the genteel, social atmosphere of a day in the countryside. Race sponsors receive unsurpassed opportunities of identification with steeplechasing and its audience.

Saturday's racing begins at 12:30 p.m. sharp with highlights: the Daniel C. Sands Hurdle Race, run in the honor of the gentleman who gave us Glenwood Park; the $30,000 National Sporting Library & Museum Cup, and the $25,000 Virginia Equine Alliance Maiden Hurdle Race.

At 9:00 a.m., the finalists for the Theodora A. Randolph Field Hunter Championship assemble before judges who put the competitors through a challenging course before picking the Grand Champion. Horses and riders come from as far away as Florida, New York and Texas to hunt and compete, and represent many foxhunt clubs. The event is hotly contested and the winner is not known until the last fence is jumped. It’s a good chance to see some of the best hunting horses in the country, so come out to cheer on your favorites!
